Leila - "I love Arab music! Especially live Arab music! I began producing CDs when I started to travel outside of Egypt to perform or teach without my orchestra. I liked the idea of having my orchestra with me even if they were only on a recording. I recorded my first mergence' that I was using at the time for a party I danced in Turkey. I just took my whole band into the studio and recorded it live. Even the drummer was following me live in the studio as we recorded. I learned later that was never done and most recordings are made all in different tracks for each musician. I loved the way that original recording sounded, like I was on stage with the band. So from then on, I would just take the songs I was using in my show at the time and go into the studio and record them. When I had a full show recorded I would release a CD. Sometimes tracks were laid down, especially on the CDs Tarab and Shobesh because of the complexities of the song on those albums, but I have always tried to record as many musicians playing live as I could. These CDs represent 13 years on stage in Egypt, hundreds of performances, many different incarnations of my show and a passion for and love of Arab music. I hope you enjoy dancing to them as much as I have."
